Toddler pillow before toddler bed?

My son is small so he’s going to be in his crib for a while... I watch him on the baby monitor every now and then and noticed that he wakes up some times to move around, flip back and forth, stick his butt up in the air, etc etc. I wonder if he’s uncomfortable and ready for a toddler pillow. I was planning on giving him a toddler pillow when we transition his crib into a toddler bed but now I’m considering giving it to him sooner. Is that frowned upon? Any negatives to that? Will it help with his sleep? He’s almost 21 months old... I don’t think suffocation is a problem, or am I missing something? Has anyone given their toddler a pillow before transitioning to a toddler bed and how did it go?

We got ours at 18 months. Switched crib to toddler bed at 2.5. Toddler pillows are so flat that it’s not a suffocation hazard.

This is also good to know! Our girl toss’s and turns and shows interest in pillows and snuggling them. She is 14 months and seems super advanced. She already has her favorite blanket that she snuggles with and I am wondering the same thing but my gut is telling me not yet. So maybe soon. But like now, it’s 3:30am and she is awake. :(

We also introduced a toddler pillow at 18 months and just transitioned to a toddler bed at a little over 2. He actually sleeps on it only about 50% of the time since he still prefers to sleep face down/tushy up. 🤷‍♀️ They’re not terribly fluffy (like an oversized airplane pillow) but I don’t think I’d introduce once unless kiddo is fully mobile and able to get themselves around the crib w/o issue,

We waited until she was fully mobile and able to get around her crib with ease, we got her this caterpillar stuffy from Walmart (pretty flat and long) she sleeps a lot better with it in there to cuddle

My son is 17 months and has severe seasonal allergies. His pediatrician just recommended we give him a pillow to help prop him up because it’s safer than elevating the crib. He said even with a pillow case it’s perfectly safe at this age.

Agree with Megan. We did the same thing at 16 months and my son loves it

I've heard it's okay as soon as they can rollover on their own but I personally waited until she asked me for one. She was around a year old.
