Trick or treating

How many of you go trick or treating ON Halloween night? Or do you go on a night where local businesses do it in the business district? Or do you do a trunk or treat? Or just a little parade at school? Or something different? Just wondering how many actually go trick or treating on Halloween night? Seems like in our area it doesn’t really happen much anymore and it’s disappointing. (Yes, I’m aware it’s August.)

We go to trunk or treat and if Halloween falls during the week which I believe it does her dad takes her since I have work. He's the one that is big on Halloween. Our complex unlocks all the doors for a couple hours so the kids can trick or treat between our buildings which is quite nice. But I never really see many kids out there. Even my parents have noticed they don't get many kids anymore.

Yes! I live and grew up in Lakewood and it's still big there, but our city is extremely walkable and safe. A lot of kids get dropped off from not-so-safe neighborhoods and I love that they come there to experience the wonder of door-to-door Halloween night trick-or-treating! While I understand that it's logistically the best option for some places, trunk-or-treat sounds kind of lame and a bit creepy.

I'm doing it all he passed out candy last year he was 5 months old. This year he will be 17 months old so I'm excited for the malls, and Halloween.

We get lots of kids every year, so it's not a thing of the past just outside Atlanta. :) We're at the end of a cul-de-sac in a quiet neighborhood, so it's a safe place for kids to walk. We try to be sure we have candy left for the latecomers, whose folks maybe couldn't get off early to bring them. We greet everyone with a smile, the bowl of candy and wish them all a fun night. Almost everyone, even the little ones, say thank you.

Yes we do! We’re in a neighborhood with a lot of children. It’s so cute to see them all dressed up!

We handed out candy last 4 years on Halloween night and only get like 10 kids top each year. It’s sad because I know neighborhood has lots more kids. So now we participate in the trunk o treat with our church

Yes, we go. Judging by how many many people are out, lots of people still go.

When did trick or treating in neighborhoods other than your own become a thing? Our neighborhood has tons of kids but few of them trick or treat here (more candy for our family I guess)!

We now trick or treat in other neighborhoods because ours is full of a bunch of fuddy duddys and I can’t walk 6 blocks in between each house to hope one has their lights on. I hate going to the business district to day trick or treat and I hate that trunk or treat business. With all my kids in all these years, we have definitely noticed a significant decline in the people who pass out candy on Halloween night.

This is be the first year for real trick treating, my son will be 3.5 years old. I took him last year to the nursing home on the weekend who were giving out candy. He was super shy and did not want to say trick or treat. I felt like if I took him real trick or treating it would have been a struggle to get him to walk with me and we have no sideways. I was not going to carry him around.

This is the first year I've had my granddaughter. Where is the best place to take her traditional trick or treating in Santa Cruz/Felton area?

We do - although there aren’t too many kids in North Beach. My husband takes out my son & I stay home to hand out candy. Maybe 25 kids? We do full size bars from Costco because I want kids to come back to our house next year lol

In West Covina, CA. Did it last year as little red riding hood (she was a year old) the granny, wolf (our dog), and woodsman. We had a fantastic time walking door to door.

Our neighborhood is compact, festive and safe from speeding cars and it’s a kick-ass place to go door to door on Halloween night! We never go anywhere else.
