Trying to stop pumping

I’m trying to slowly stop pumping because I really can’t handle the pain when dealing with 7 kids. I have went from pumping every 4hrs for 10min to pumping every 6 hr for 5min. How quick should I change to 7 or 8 hrs. I can barely handle the 6hrs. Only switched to 6 hrs for like 2-3 days. Should I maybe wait until a wk and then go to 7hrs? Or try and go to 4mins or something. Any ideas?

You sound like you might be using the wrong size of flanges (the part that sucks on your nipple) or too high of pressure. It shouldn’t be painful. I’d try lowering the pressure of how hard it sucks and trying different sizes of flanges to make the last bit you have bearable. Also try using a bit of nipple cream to help lube up the pump to make it less painful. I was able to quit breastfeeding and pumping within a couple weeks. I’d only pump until I got relief, then stop. I’d only do it when I felt needed too. My supply was low already tho, so it didn’t take me long. I did still produce milk for a couple months after. It wasn’t a lot but I’d leak a couple drops in the shower, or if I hand expressed (just to check if I had any left) I’d have a couple drops.

No. You can go ahead and start moving to 7 hours. Then 8. It shouldn't take too long for your boobs to get used to not filling up as fast

I agree with Katie, pumping should not have been painful, however, when stopping yes, pump as needed to relieve pressure, should take a couple of weeks to dry up. I always have pumped at least 20 min to empty my breasts, so if you are only pumping 5 or 10 min, it should dry up pretty fast.

Perhaps eating less calories, so your body can’t produce as much?

Put cold compresses on your boobs twice a day and wear your bra a little tighter. Are you trying to stop lactating all together or just pumping?

I’ve heard that when you want to dry up you should put cold cabbage leaves in your bra it’s helped a few of my friends.
