Tylenol for teething

How often is it safe to give Tylenol for teething? My LO is 6 months and her 2 bottoms have come through and I think she is now working on the top 2. I just don't want to give her too much medicine, but it is the only thing that seems to help her at night.

I was worried about the same thing. Honestly, I always try to calm my LO with other methods first and then give Tylenol if they aren’t working. I’d say once a night while she’s teething should be fine. Maybe for no more than a week, though.

Ya, we've tried other things and she always wakes up multiple times during the night. Tylenol seems to help her sleep better. I only give it the one time before bed, but I think no more than a week sounds like a good plan. Thanks

I gave my son either Tylenol or Motrin (when he was old/weighed enough) before bed to help with the bad pain overnight which seemed to be the worst. I tried to to find other ways to soothe him during the day but he definitely needs it overnight or he wakes up in pain.

I give her Motrin before bed and the teething tablets as well. The combo seemed to work well for her first 2 teeth. I use motion because it helps with inflammation.

Tylenol can be given every 4 hrs but i think only 4 doses in 24hrs. My little one has been teething bad i tend to do tylenol if his food/milk consumption has gone down, when hes really grumpy or waking while napping or night time. Generally its the first and last reasons. Alot of the time recently hes had it 3 times a day and been fine at night. Other times fine during the day and waking screaming twice at night.

Teething basically sucks! Thankfully they won’t remember it but we will 😢😂

@ Heidi Totally agree weve had it non stop since 6 months and hes almost 10. Hes got 2 front bottom teeth cut. 2 front teeth in gums and 4 top teeth in gums all ready to cut! Took first ones a month to cut but his two front top have been in for about 6 weeks now and still not cut just keeps getting more in the gums.

@kerry same here! Mine will be 2 in March and I feel like he’s been constantly teething since last Thanksgiving!!! He’s got a full mouth of teeth pretty much. I don’t know how many more he can get but he’s still chewing on his fingers and popping them through! Idk if it’s harder on them or us! It’ll be over eventually right?

Tylenol can be given every 4 hours. Motrin works better for inflammation though. Same dosage and length of time in between.

@Heidi awww bless him. Yes it will but its def hard, sometimes i think its harder on them then other times like him screaming in my arms at 4am till tylenol kicks in is harder on us cause we cant do anything for them. @Marisa I though ibuprofen was 6-8 hrs in between not 4hrs

I could be wrong...I haven’t had to give Motrin to my 2nd daughter yet. Can’t remember all the rules anymore.

Every 4 hours. But for dosage, be sure to refer to your pediatrician-provided chart. You should wait to get the green light before giving Motrin to your baby. It isnt just "6 months" ... It requires 6 months + baby being a weight that pediatrician feels comfortable with for a specific dosage.

I know the every 4 hours. The question is really how many days in a row is it safe to give tylenol? I don't want to give it to her for too many days

Just read my bottle you can do 5 doses in 24 hrs. Ive done it one time almost 2 weeks in a row at 4 or 5 doses in 24hrs cause he would just scream or not eat lol.

I had the same question when I went to our last pediatrician’s appointment. She recommends giving Motrin for no more than a total of 10 days a month and that’s the general rule I’ve been trying to follow. I usually don’t give the medicine more than 4-5 days in a row (then I take a break and I give it to her again in a few days).
