What can I do for tummy time?!

I’m a first time mom and I need serious help! I had a premie and she absolutely hates tummy time! I have tried everything! She hates laying on your chest on a play mat on a c pillow everything. I’ve tried putting toys out and a mirror still nothing. I’ve even tried putting a warm rice bag on her back to kinda stable her. She will not lift her head up or push in any sort of way. She is 6 months old but her adjusted age is 4. She can hold her head up when sitting but I’m worried about her arm strength. Please help me! I have no idea what else to do!

Have you tried laying down and doing it with her?

Yes I have! She liked it for the first 2 months but after that she hated it.

When you have her on your chest, are you laying all the way down? My kids hated tummy time too, and the only thing I found that worked, was laying them on my chest while I was sitting at a slight incline, but not laying flat

I’ve tried laying flat and being on a slight incline. As soon as she is a little bit on her stomach she freaks out

I used to do it on my bed with the phone on the selfie camera. I don't know why, but she liked that more than the mirror. Plus I ended up with super cute videos. It did take some time for her to like it. Also, make sure she doesn't do it right after eating, because the pressure is uncomfortable. You could always do it for a few seconds at a time on the changing table after a diaper change and then build from there.

If you have a baby carrier (wraps are great for newborns/small babes) you can wear her and it helps them engage the same muscles as during tummy time! It’s a great alternative.

Have you tried tummy time on your chest or lap?

Let her cry it out. She’s needs tummy time. She’ll get used to it eventually.

Try putting her on her tummy five minutes at a time throughout the day, as much as you can. She’ll eventually get used to it but you have to let her cry for the five minutes

Thank you all so much! She doesn’t cry anymore but she still doesn’t lift her head up or push up on her arms. Is there anything to help with that?

A boppy would help a lot. They’re only $25 at tjmaxx compared to regular retail price of $30 and up
