This resonates so much with me! When I was young my dad was laid off and my mom had to go back to work to support our family. I got see her climb the ranks, go back to school for a master's degree, write a book and even become head of her department. It wasn't easy, but she thrived. I got to see firsthand that you could be both a good mom and also a smart, successful woman in the workplace. There were times I wished I had the cookie-baking PTA mom, but now I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm so grateful for everything she taught me.

I'm going back to work soon and this made me feel good about my decision and motivates me to work hard to find balance between work and home life

I’m very proud of my single working mom, and always glad she had more to occupy her than my settling down and having babies- most of my friends’ moms seemed to pressure their kids, and I felt it was because they were bored housewives- and I decided to put my career on the side, and take up odd freelance work, because I still felt the deep yearning to simply be with my mother. She was always so busy. We did a lot together, but just being together, for her to be fully present, was a rarity. Still is in fact. And I am also aware of the praise and value my mom still gets for being a working mother, whereas I sit through misconceptions of being a ‘stay at home mom’ or ‘house wife’ etc. Mixed feelings. It’s hard both ways.
