Worried mom

My 9 months old baby girl refuses to eat her cereal or meal. Is it common to lose the appetite? She used to eat three times a day. Is there any breakfast and meal suggestion?

I think around this time they know what tastes good to them. By 9 months I was giving my son what I would eat for breakfast. Sometimes bread and butter and boiled eggs cut up into small pieces and he loves it. For his dinner he stopped eating the food I would make him which it’s obviously bland since its mostly boiled vegetables and meats and began making him soups with basic seasonings not the complete ones since it has way to much additives and salt and he loves it.

Are you only offering purees? Or table foods as well? At about 10 months my daughter started doing the same thing because she didn’t want the purees anymore so I started steaming her veggies and giving her soft fruits

Thank you Dai and Kieli. I feed her cereal and sometime mix mashed apples or banana. And in meal, I make a porridge with greens, chicken, salt, garlic. But from last two weeks , I struggle to feed her. She doesnt like pure as well. I give her puffs, crackers, apple. I am trying to balance a three meal that the doctor suggest but here I am. What's is best to feed her in breakfast besides the cereal?

My daughter completely stopped eating solids for about a month. I kept offering them everyday and she eventually began to eat regularly again. At 9m formula/breast milk is still the main source of nutrients so I wouldn’t worry too much as long as she getting enough of that.

Yes Bailey. She is bottle and breast fed. It's just so worrying that she stopped eating her meal.

Give her the same foods you eat just cook them with her in mind so low salt and try not to use too many processed ingredients and then either mash them up or pass them through the blender a few seconds to break it up but not purée it completely. You might even find that much easier than to make her baby food

Yes I will try doing that. Thanks Dai.

This week I made him a pot of soup. I added a whole turkey breast with the bone in, a whole onion, a few cloves of garlic, about 6 carrots, 1 malanga root, half a red pepper, a pinch of salt, oregano, parsley, cumin, and pepper. I boiled it all and when it was done I took the bone out and passed it through the blender with rice and left it with some texture and he actually opens his mouth voluntarily!

My daughter stops eating food when she’s teething. She also stopped all puréed baby foods around that time (unfortunate for me since I’d just bought copious amounts of her favorite organic pouches right before she started to refuse and ended up having to donate them all!). So if you’re not already trying mushy finger foods, try that as well.

She’s probably just bored of the same thing.....maybe mix it up with some scrambled eggs or a sausage patty or a peanut butter covered waffle? All of those are easy to fix and easy to eat.

My LO is the same, every now and then she might take a bite or two of the cereal but now that she has one tooth coming in and she’s use to eating solids she prefers that better than the “mush”. Steamed veggies, soft fruits, baby snacks every now and then, and she eats what we eat at the table for meals. But milk is the main source of nutrition so as long as the baby is drinking it should be good.

Yes she likes crunchy food like cracker, puffs, apple.. feeding the mashed food is a big struggle. But I feel bit relieved now. This is such a great community. Thanks everyone.
