Today we're excited to announce that Winnie has been named to Inc. magazine's annual list of the Best Workplaces for 2021. To win this award, Winnie employees participated in a comprehensive survey conducted by Quantum Workplace, and the company's benefits for employees were analyzed and scored.

Winnie is not your traditional startup — 60 percent of our employees are women, 48 percent identify as people of color, and 35 percent of our employees have children under 10. Winnie provides generous parental leave to all parents, excellent health benefits for employees and their dependents, and an annual budget for professional development.

But even more important to us than those tangible benefits are the intangible benefits that come with building an inclusive work culture. We believe that when employees feel valued as humans, they can, and will, do their best work.

We believe that when employees feel valued as humans, they can, and will, do their best work

This past year's experiment in remote work showed the world that we shouldn't measure productivity by hours spent in the office or in front of a computer. We encourage employees to block time on their calendars for things like daycare pickup or going to the gym. Giving people flexibility to take time off for their family or because they just need personal time means the difference between a working parent feeling stuck versus feeling supported. As it turns out, this is a benefit that employees who aren't parents also appreciate - after all we all have needs outside of work and many times it's best to address these during traditional work hours.

Equally important to protecting personal time is allowing employees to bring their whole selves to work. Many of us just spent a year with kids popping into zoom calls and were better for it. We believe it's a good thing when people feel comfortable breastfeeding in meetings and talking about their kids at work. Politics is not a taboo topic at Winnie because we recognize that we are all responsible for building an anti-racist society and that we will need to change the status quo to do so.

Many talented individuals have left the workforce, and some may be looking to come back. One unique thing Winnie has done to attract returners is to offer part-time employment - complete with salary, benefits and equity. This type of position is attractive to some returners transitioning back to work after caring for young children or taking care of their own physical and mental health, and it's a great way to tap into incredible talent who may not otherwise be on the market.

We're so proud of the workplace we've built at Winnie and know that the hard work must continue as we grow. If you want to join our diverse, mission-driven team to bring excellent childcare and early education to every family, we're hiring.
