Voluntary Pre-K (VPK)

By the time our daycare students reach our VPK/ PreK class, they are ready for the most exciting adventure they will ever know: the world of learning to read. Each child learns the letters and their sounds, slowly finding these treasures in their own worlds. With the loving hand of their teachers, the knowledge is imparted through playtime and art, and music, and dance. All the while, with the warm nurturing of their teachers, they also learn about how to be friends, and develop the morals and integrity they will carry with them as they enter the world of elementary education. By graduation day, they proudly walk down the aisle in their caps and gowns and receive not only a giant hug from their teachers, but also a diploma saying they are ready for Kindergarten.

The Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) program is a voluntary High Quality Educational Program for 4 year old children in Florida. Every four-year old child in Florida shall be provided by the State a high quality pre-kindergarten learning opportunity in the form of an early childhood development and education program which shall be voluntary, high quality, free, and delivered according to professionally accepted standards. VPK gives each child an opportunity to perform better in school and throughout life with quality programs that include high literacy standards, accountability, appropriate curricula, substantial instruction periods, lower class sizes and qualified instructors. All eligible children are entitled to participate in one of three VPK program options. The VPK mission is to ensure that all children are intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically ready to enter school and ready to learn, fully recognizing the crucial role of parents as their child’s first teacher.

Preschool

As children transition from the Nido program to our Preschool program, they enter a phase of the curriculum that builds upon on their expanded vocabulary. Collaboration and communication become the cornerstones of all activities. Within this framework, children are prompted to engage in small peer groups, fostering the exploration, design, and presentation of their projects. This approach encourages learners to formulate hypotheses, investigate processes, and draw conclusions, empowering them to articulate and defend ideas, building confidence in their ability to formulate individual opinions and become the authors of their own learning journeys. Explorations are based upon long term projects throughout the year, allowing students to build upon previously mastered concepts, deepening their ability to learn. Through these interdisciplinary projects, children engage in foundational learning skills such as math, science, social studies, and language arts in meaningful ways.

The state of Florida offers free pre-kindergarten for all 4-year-olds who reside in Florida and were born on or before September 1 each year. The school year program offers 540 instructional hours. VPK gives each child an opportunity to perform better in school, prepares every child in Florida for kindergarten, and builds the foundation for their educational success.
