Continuing Early Head Start’s critical work, Head Start (HS) further promotes and strengthens school readiness for preschool-aged children from low-income families. Providing care and preschool services for children ages three through five, Educare Academy has teamed up with Lucas County Family Council and Great Lakes Community Action Partnership at several of our Toledo and surrounding locations to offer HS. Our goal? Enhancing children’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development, so they’re ready to succeed when entering kindergarten.

This program focuses on kindergarten readiness skills. Fine motor skills are taken further by teaching children to write their name and use correct strokes to form letters of the alphabet. We further expand the skills they have begun to develop in vocabulary and reading basic words. We create intentional learning experiences to expand their critical thinking skills. Children learn how to identify patterns, complete sequences, and follow multiple-step directions. This gives our children the confidence to transition right into elementary school. Your preschooler is beginning to connect letters, sounds and numbers, expanding their world through reading and math. They’re building critical-thinking skills, early physical fitness and an understanding of nutrition. Our teachers support that learning and encourage your child to think in new and different ways.

Our Preschool Pathways program provides a “bridge” between our Early Preschool and Preschool classrooms for children whose birthdays will miss the cutoff date for kindergarten entrance.
