Kindergarten

Villa Montessori full-day kindergarten curriculum includes units that combine language, math, art, science, geography, history and cultural studies. A low student/teacher ratio allows for highly personalized teaching. We are not bound by arbitrary ‘cut off’ dates. Any child at least 4.5 years old is eligible for our Private Kindergarten Program as long as they are able to meet our readiness criteria.

At The Merit School, we have a platform that allows each child to be immersed in a positive and enriching environment. This positive space promotes a confident child self-image, encourages independence, and sets a specific educational path to meet academic goals based on the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLS). Our private kindergarten curriculum places a heavy emphasis on reading and writing as well as incorporating math, science, social studies, and critical thinking skills. Interactive lessons are implemented through our promethean board, hands-on activities, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math).

Kindergarteners

We provide programs to ensure readiness for first grade. This includes reading for kindergarten, and a continued learning of technology and art. Our kindergarten classes combine our L.E.A.P early education curriculum with an environment of fun, open-ended exploration, investigation, discovery, and building self-confidence and self-esteem. It’s the perfect opportunity for optimum growth in academics, socialization, physical fitness, and emotional well-being.

The Lower School, grades K to 5th grade, is where the foundation and building blocks are formed for their next steps.

Before & After Care

Learning and fun continue beyond the school day. Our school-age program, for children ages 5–12, is designed to match children's growing independence and expanding abilities. Students enjoy sports, games, and arts and crafts while forming friendships and working together. A quiet space for homework helps build focus and responsibility, while giving families peace of mind as they balance work and child care.

Summer Camp

Each day at our summer camp is a thrilling new adventure. Campers dive into hands-on activities, from science exploration to creative and performing arts, sports, and games. We offer a perfect blend of indoor and outdoor activities, special guests, and on-campus events. Our camp leaders set a positive example and create a warm, friendly place where every child feels welcome and supported. Your child will gain confidence, learn new skills, and come home eager to tell you all about their day!

The Youth Zone (School Age Care)

The Youth Zone is our before and after school program that enables working parents to know that their child is safe and supported in the hours leading up to, and following their school day. Children have an opportunity to spend mornings and afternoons with friends in an environment that is fun, friendly and relaxing.

Summer Camp

School’s out, but the learning and fun don’t have to stop! Summer Camp at Minnieland Academy makes it easy for parents to keep their routines by providing an exciting, safe, activity-driven place for their kids when school isn’t happening!

School Age Program

Our before & after school program is offered for children ages 5-12 on regular school days. We also offer full-day programs for all out of school days and camps during school breaks, including Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer Camp.

Flexible Care

With Flexi-Pass, families can purchase 5 full days of prepaid care to use one at a time or all at once. There are no registration fees, no ongoing tuition, and no long-term commitment — just trusted care at a lower per-day cost.

School Age Before and After Care

Before and after school program focused on the developmental areas of: creative expression, community, literacy, inquiry-based learning, character development, and executive function. Daily routine includes: time for puzzles and games, science, math and construction, library, and creative arts. Teachers will also provide help with homework. Your child will have the opportunity to start clubs, create projects, and become a junior leader. Program provides daily physical activity and snacks.
