Topanga Mountain School is an independent non-profit middle school serving grades 5 through 8, located at the foot of the Santa Monica Mountains in Woodland Hills. The school uses a hands-on, experiential curriculum that integrates core academics with outdoor education, including weekly nature sit-spots, gardening, cooking from the school's own harvest, and regular camping trips. Specialty subjects include Spanish, ceramics, fencing, archery, aerial silks, rock climbing, music, drama, and dance. The school does not use textbooks or standardized testing, maintains a small enrollment of around 40 students with class sizes of 12–14, and approximately 30% of families receive financial aid.
