Kindergarten

The Gardner School’s private Kindergarten program, available at select locations, offers a full-day, research-based curriculum designed to provide an academic advantage in a nurturing and engaging environment. With smaller class sizes—one teacher for every 15 students—our program ensures personalized instruction and hands-on learning. Using Open Court Reading, students develop independent reading skills through explicit, systematic instruction, while Math Expressions, based on National Science Foundation research, encourages deeper mathematical thinking and problem-solving. The Learning Without Tears curriculum enhances writing, literacy, and digital skills through multi-sensory techniques, fostering well-rounded academic growth. Kindergarten

Our Montessori kindergarten program has been a cornerstone since 2008, preparing children for academic success through leadership development and advanced skill-building in math, reading, and writing. Graduates consistently excel in mainstream schools, often placing in accelerated programs. We offer both half-day and full-day options, with half-day requiring one prior year in our preschool. This crucial year allows children to integrate years of hands-on learning, reaching new levels of independence and academic mastery before first grade.

Summer Program

At Sonnet we take advantage of sunshine filled days and warm weather to allow children to enjoy and explore the outdoors by visiting the playground and the neighboring park, taking hikes, exploring the woods and even bringing our Montessori work outdoors! We also create a fun-filled summer by exploring themes carefully selected to be both fun, educational and encourage creative thinking. Themes are introduced throughout the day in both group presentations and individual exploration opportunities. Each two or three week session features hands on activities or experiments, projects, artwork, and field trips or in house workshops. Every Friday, weather permitting, is “water day” at Sonnet Montessori! Bring an extra change of clothes for your child as they will enjoy a variety of outdoor activities using water.

Daily routine includes: time for puzzles and games, science, math and construction, library, and creative arts. Teachers will also provide help with homework. Thankfully, we have the opportunity of continuing to care for our students and watch them grow even after they go off to Kindergarten in our School-Age Classrooms! In our school-age classrooms, we encourage our students to continue their social and academic development; before and after school, in the summer, and on days when their schools are closed.
