Parent Reviews
Ms. Kara, I know I am the first to complain when things don’t go right, but I also wanted to call out something that Mr. Kris had a significant part in helping to happen. I think in passing I may have mentioned Jamey’s two recent trophies for reading (one last week and one yesterday). To further explain them, the first was for participation in a district wide challenge called the Best Book Club. Kids sign up to “accept the challenge” of reading books off of a set list in a specified period of time and then take tests when they are done to verify they have read the books. At the end of the time period they take a collective test covering all the books on the reading list. Jamey as a 4th grader (the challenge is open to 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders), not only read all of the books on the list, but took top honors in his school on the final test. This allowed him to captain the team at district (where they got about joint 6th). Yesterday they had the internal “reading test” open to all students in 3rd – 6th grades (not just those who signed up for theBBC challenge), and once again Jamey beat all comers to take First Place in the School competition as a 4th Grader. As you know, I have for the last few years had Jamey signed up for KLA with Mr. Kris who used the standard curricula at first and then when Jamey moved beyond that was able to tailor a curricula to meet Jamey’s personal needs and partner with my wishes and what Jamey was learning in his formal educational setting. It is in no small part, because of this commitment and dedication to my son and his learning shown by Mr. Kris that Jamey is reaping the success and rewards he has achieved this year. When you think about it, this extra instruction and attention provided by Mr. Kris has helped my 4th grader not only beat all of his peers in these competitions but also all of the children in the 2 school years ahead of him! I also see the benefit with Kieran who as a 2nd grader has just obtained the entry level 4th grade mark in his reading at school. Once again, teachers like Mr. Kris make your center a wonderful place; and provides a parent like myself with confidence that they are gaining something being there versus just wasting time waiting for me to get off work. There are many other things I could add to this kudos for Mr. Kris (he has helped them with their jump shot, all the lovely art he has encouraged them to bring home to me by the carload, being a positive male role model, etc. etc.) but here was a tangible, measurable (always key in the business environment) item that shows all the good work pays off!
