Parent Reviews
Little Bee is an incredible preschool, and I could not recommend it enough to prospective parents. Our son has attended the Funston (Presidio) location since he was 2 years old. Each class has 3 main teachers + floating teachers, who all care for the kids with kindness and empathy. The campus' location in the Presidio creates an idyllic and beautiful environment for the kids - they go outside to explore nature every morning and we get sent daily pictures and videos of their adventures. We love the Mandarin immersion aspect, and our son is fully bilingual thanks to the teachers' efforts. Sarra, the director of Little Bee, runs a tight and efficient ship. The involved PTA organizes many community events, such as monthly playdates, Easter Egg Hunts, an annual Camp Out, Pumpkin Picking, Santa's Brunch, parents' nights out and more across the Funston and Lombard locations. Beyond just a preschool, this is also a supportive, caring, welcoming community of families and we have met many wonderful friends through Little Bee.
Little Bee is a gem. The combination of outdoor time mixed with the warmth of the teachers and fellow kids has our daughter running to school with joy and excitement every morning. I cannot imagine a more enriching way to have introduced her to education.
Little Bee is the best community we could have ever imagined stumbling upon. The kids get to run around the Presidio, learn Mandarin, build incredibly strong friendships, and receive care from the kindest and most supportive teachers out there. We could not picture a better childcare option!
We love Little Bee. The kids are happy, well adventured on their daily outings & kept safe; the director Sarra is easy to work with, and the parent community is welcoming. On top of a Mandarin curriculum with creative activities daily, the lucky kids take outings every morning to various beautiful Presidio locations, including the ocean & beach, forest, and the new Presidio Tunnel tops. We also appreciate the weekly show & tells, daily photo updates, and music classes. The kids enjoy singing Mandarin & English songs learned without speaking Mandarin at home. Highly recommend.
Finding Little Bee feels like discovering a hidden gem. Our child gets to be in the outdoors for a good portion of the day, in the Presidio, with the Golden Gate Bridge as a backdrop. On top of that, her Mandarin AND English skills seem far advanced among her peers that are not in Little Bee. The parent community is one-of-a-kind and we have made some lifelong friends here. The only downside is knowing that our child will have to leave for kindergarten one day. Little Bee is a special place that our family will always treasure.
Sending our daughter to Little Bee was one of the best decisions we made as parents. The staff is incredibly nice and enthusiastic with all the children. Our daughter couldn't wait to go to school every day, and was always greeted with a big smile and hug. A few other things that stood out. 1) Our daughter learned Chinese quite quickly and really surprised us with her language learning skills. 2) The amount of time the kids spend outdoors in the Presidio is incredible - I couldn't think of a more fun place to explore the natural world and build character. 3) Sarra (head of school) is super responsive and attentive - she really 'cares' and is clearly on top of every detail. 10/10 would recommend Little Bee!
My son went to Little Bee from 18 months to 3 years old. We only left LB because we moved away. LB was one of the top things we missed most about SF because our son loved it so much! It was the perfect environment for him- lots of outdoor time, play-time, arts and crafts, circle time, and weekly music class! We picked LB because of the Mandarin immersion program combined with a more western educational philosophy. My son also loves nature and exploring and nothing can beat the Presidio! The teachers are so caring and warm-hearted. Sarra the Director/Owner is amazing. As first time parents, we felt extremely supported by her along the way. She guided us and our son when we needed it- from his transition to school (from nanny at home), to potty training, to adjusting to a new sibling, and to eventually transitioning to another school when we were moving. I highly recommend LB if you’re on the fence!
In August 2020 when I couldn’t handle full-time working and parenting from home anymore, we started looking into new daycares/preschools given the Bright Horizons we were enrolled in was still closed. Given that not everyone was comfortable sending their kids back to school yet, we were fortunate to have come across openings at our top two Chinese-immersion daycare picks after extensive research. Even though Little Bee was a much further commute for us, we ended up choosing LB over the other option because the Presidio environment felt much nicer than downtown, and LB sent photo updates, which was important for my peace of mind. When we decided to move out of SF, it was a really difficult decision for us to make because we and our 2yo son just loved LB so much. It was a really easy school to transition into with minimal tears during dropoff because our toddler enjoyed school so much! The teachers took the kids on morning walks / field trips to nearby destinations everyday, like the Palace of Fine Arts, Chrissy Field Beach, scenic walking paths inside the Presidio, community gardens, and more. My son REALLY loves the outdoors, so he really thrived here and enjoyed story time and playtime outside. We also felt safer that school was partially outdoors due to covid, and our 2yo learned to wear a mask due to everyone else wearing one. While the preschool didn’t feel as structured as what we were used to at Bright Horizons, I think our son actually benefited from the looser routine since he was transitioning out of naps (but could still nap at a later time if needed) and frankly just enjoyed playing by himself sometimes vs. having to follow a strict activity schedule. LB still does plenty of hands-on craft activities like clay molding, painting, paper cutting & glueing, and so much more, so we always had “souvenirs” to bring home from school. LB also recently implemented a weekly curriculum that gets emailed out the week prior as well as provided catered lunch from a Chinese restaurant Tuesdays thru Fridays, so I almost wish we didn’t leave SF!
Our 18-month old toddler is enjoying his time at Little Bee Presidio. Little Bee made the transition to daycare easy for both my child and us (the parents). The communication has been great from the start - with speedy responses when I had questions and detailed information to get us prepared for our child’s first day. Also, in the current environment with COVID, the Little Bee team provided a thoughtful and thorough process to ensure safety and cleanliness every day at every hour. I really appreciate how proactive they have been in these uncertain times! The two other wonderful things that I will mention include: 1) The new Presidio campus is a beautiful environment for children. The house is bright, sunny, spacious and full of wonderful things for the children to play with. Little Bee has created their own mini version of the Exploratorium! There is also a gated yard full of toys for the children to play with. The Presidio location allows the children to do mini field trips in the surrounding greenery and ponds. 2) Secondly, the Little Bee team demonstrates love for their kids and is fully engaged with them throughout the day. I usually get a quick summary of my child’s day at pick up, and I appreciate the details provided by the teachers. Parents receive daily photos of the children in the midst of their activities. Overall, there is a warm, fun, and safe environment at Little Bee.
We have had a great experience with Little Bee and highly recommend it. We started our son at Little Bee when he was 18 months. We have been thrilled with the care and enthusiasm the teachers bring to school every day. Recently in the challenging times of post-Covid, Sarra & the team have gone above and beyond to be both safe and very attentive to the needs of the children. Initially, we weren't sure if our son would take to Mandarin immersion but it's worked out wonderfully. He has enjoyed it and he's gotten exposed to an entirely different language (we speak English at home). We have been delighted to find a warm and caring community of parents and teachers at Little Bee and couldn't recommend the school more highly.
We sent our son to Little Bee when he was 21 months old. We chose Little Bee because of their Mandarin-immersion program, good student-teacher ratio, and strong reputation. It also helps so much that lunch and snacks are provided. When we went in for an initial playdate, Sarra (the owner) made our son feel at ease. On his first day, Sarra went out of her way to make me feel comfortable (it's always harder on the moms!). At the end of his first day, he cried because he didn't want to leave. He was having so much fun! I cannot say enough good things about the teachers at Little Bee. They are so nurturing and attentive. It was amazing to see our son grow so much during his time there. When he started, he was very quiet and shy. Now he won't stop talking! This school went above and beyond my expectations. I would definitely recommend Little Bee as a great place for your child.
We are sadly relocating back to New York and have to leave Little Bee Daycare. The daycare is absolutely wonderful! The teachers are incredibly loving. Everyday my daughter is greeted with the biggest hug and smile from her teachers and she runs right in ready to play. The daycare has a curriculum that is emailed out to parents, which I really enjoy because it gives the kids a sense of structure but also allow them to be creative and experience new things. They go outside every day whether that be to local parks, or a walk through the neighborhood to smell flowers. The daycare also has an outdoor space, so they get plenty of outdoor time. The owner Sarra is very responsive and a wonderful person. Everyone there truly cares about your child and their development. I really appreciated the parent teacher conferences, that give you great insight into your child's development. We have been so happy with the daycare and are really sad to leave it.
We just started a few days a week and are really impressed and appreciative of how much support and flexibility we've had for the always-tough initial transition. Our "criteria" was Chinese immersion and a sensible, loving place that would hopefully provide continuity through preschool. So far, this seems like we hit the mark on all. The teachers have worked with us to help our not-quite 2 year old acclimate. Even though she's unsure and there are tears, she is genuinely excited to go to school, and talks constantly about her classmates and teachers on her off days. We're overlapping for a short while with kids about to transition into the preschool location, and it's great to see what happy, confident, thoughtful kids they seem to be. I also love that the continuity means flexibility and not rushing kids into preschool proper simply by age. The parent community is warm and seems close knit, and existing and former parents are really helpful and have a genuine fondness for the place. Lots of repeat families with all siblings having gone from day care through preschool. Not least, the application process was human and responsive. We spoke to and had questions answered by real people! So far, so good.
