I am usually not a person who does ratings or reviews no matter how horrible my experience is because we are human and all have bad days but this is an education establishment and I believe in respect and time. I recently enrolled my son over the summer and planned for him to start September. I did a tour and talk with the director about a delayed start because my son needed more time at home because of his immune system and past experiences with daycares. He had been at home with me while I work previously and I wanted to make sure he transitioned into daycare as easily as possible. I was informed he could start the day after Labor Day and that it was being written down. Of course, I asked if anything else was needed when I turned in my registration fees. I was told no. When I September 8th, it was a shock to the staff. I hesitated but they said they could take him still. I was unsettled with leaving him as I didn’t think he was comfortable and to be honest I wasn’t comfortable either. I called around 11am to check in on him and also ask about other information that I was told I was missing. The director informed me that he was ok but he was unsettled and then informed me that he may need to start half days for awhile. We talked a bit and she then asked “what’s up with his speech?” Caught off guard, I said nothing. She asked if his pediatrician had spoken to me about it. I said no she posed no concerns. He is only two and he hasn’t been fully enrolled in school. Some kids talk faster than others and if he was having trouble down the line we could talk about options. He had only been there three hours and most of that time I’m sure he was upset. How could they determine he needed help with his speech? I told them I would come get him early. I came earlier than the time she said because I wanted to talk face to face because things can be misconstrued over the phone. When I arrived, I was met with the same energy. She stated she didn’t like the lack of communication on my end by not contacting them before his start date. I took accountability for that but it was understood by me that nothing else was needed. But the lack of accountability on the administration end spoke volumes for me. Because I was told his start date was written down and if there needed to be a conversation beforehand I could have been called as well. Since there was no accountability, I decided to unenroll him immediately. Also the side note is my child was “too much” for the classroom setting. I made it very clear that it had been a year since he was in daycare. If he was too much, they could have turned me away immediately and I would respected that more than being a lecture on his speech and my lack of communication. Although take full responsibility for my actions, they while as administrators as well. I thought long and hard on if I wanted to do this post but I think it is needed. She called me later to give back my registration fee but honestly this is more than about money. Respect and accountability was lacked in this situation as well.
