Parent Reviews
We love SOPNS! Our 3.5yo daughter has been there for over a year and we couldn't have better things to say. The teachers and staff are loving and communicative, the campus is safe and well-cared for, and the community of parents is not only friendly but fun. They have super flexible hours and a hot lunch program - both so helpful for busy working parents. Also the drop-off/pick-up situation is easy peasy. TL;DR: our kid has thrived there and I bet yours would too!
We couldn't be happier with SOPNS! Our daughter absolutely loves going to school every day—she has so much fun and comes home excited to share everything she's learned. The enrichment programs, like the dance class, add an extra layer of joy to her experience, and she’s constantly surprising us with new things she’s picked up, from letters and numbers to colors and songs. The school incorporates learning into creative activities including many fund art projects! It’s clear that the teachers put so much care into making the environment engaging, educational, and fun. Most importantly, they are warm, loving, and truly make the kids feel safe and nurtured. As parents, knowing that our child is in such a supportive and happy place means everything to us. If you're looking for a preschool where your child will thrive, we highly recommend SOPNS!
My child started at Sherman Oaks Presbyterian Nursery School when he was 2 years old and our whole family has had a wonderful experience at this preschool. What first attracted us to the school was the variety of hours they offer. My child started off part time and we then moved him to full time as he was doing so well. He often refuses to leave at the end of the day! We are not religious, but always felt welcome. All the teachers we have had have been fantastic and I cannot believe how much my child has learned here — both socially and academically. The school director, Miss Elizabeth, is also amazing, very communicative and kind. She really takes the time to get to know each student which is so refreshing. The school also has a great playground which all the kids love. They have a hot lunch program which is great, my son eats more at school than he does at home. They also use an app to communicate with parents, in addition to phone calls and emails, to get real-time school updates. The nursery school also offers great events for families, and at times the whole community. From parent happy hours/ kid movie nights, to the Trike-a-thon and the Easter Extravaganza, there's no shortage of fun events to keep the children (and parents!), entertained and engaged. Another positive is the parking - they have a large parking lot which makes pick-up and drop-off a breeze (such a nice perk in LA!).
A Warm, Supportive, and Thoughtfully Run Preschool Our child started when he was 2 ½ years old in Miss Blanca and Miss Gilda’s class. Starting in January was tricky since most of the class began in the fall, but the staff and teachers’ caring approach made all of us feel at ease and we fell into the routine quickly. Their support with potty training was also paramount to our son’s learning and ultimately, we feel sped up his learning and adoption process of using the potty both at home and at school. Later we moved up to the Little Stars classroom with Miss Teresa and Miss Leslie, both of whom our son adores and greets them daily with hugs. Drop offs were tricky for maybe a week, the school makes it easier with routines so our child knows what to expect, along with community play, allowing him to see his old teachers and classmates. The teachers are genuine, caring and communicative, giving thoughtful feedback about our child’s progress, even though we try not to ask too many questions and become ‘that parent’ 🚁 ! We appreciate the them sharing the weekly lesson plans, outlining what our boy will be learning. It gives us a chance to reinforce those lessons at home, and we love to see when he surprises us with something new he’s picked up that we know he didn’t learn from us! SOPNS strikes a great balance between structured activities and open play, giving kids plenty of time to explore and socialize. I have really appreciated their attention and response to the ever-changing environmental landscape, like adding air purifiers to each classroom after the fires we experienced earlier this year. Beyond the classroom, the Parents Club is excellent —super involved and always putting on great events for both kids and parents. They also offer onsite childcare for parents night so we can slip off for a cheeky beverage without looking for a sitter. If you need (or want) to keep your child there, they have extended hours from 7am-6pm. We haven’t used the school lunch program, so I can’t speak to that, but overall, SOPNS has been a nurturing, enriching environment for our dude, and we’re grateful to be part of this community! His younger brother will be joining SOPNS in the fall.
I love this school! My daughter "graduated" from here a few years ago and my son is now here and is so happy. Flexible hours to accommodate working parents, loving and caring teachers, a great playground, and reasonable cost. Whenever I pick up my son, he never wants to leave! It's play-based but their TK also prepared my daughter very well for Kinder. Super kind and welcoming parent community, too. Highly recommend this sweet neighborhood school!
The warm atmosphere and dedicated staff have created a second home for her. The curriculum is mainly play-based learning and blends play and learning, fostering both academic and social skills. The teachers are nurturing and encourage creativity, which has helped my daughter thrive. At first I felt uneasy leaving my two-year -child, but they completely eased any concerns. Ms. Barbara, Ms. Gilda, and Ms. Teresa are wonderful. Communication with parents is excellent, with regular updates on progress and an open-door policy for discussions if any concerns arise. The clean, safe facilities and outdoor playtime enrich the children’s experience. They have a playground and sandbox with lots of bikes and other toys during outdoor play. Everything is created with safety in mind too. Overall, SOPNS has provided a wonderful and stable foundation for my daughter’s future learning. I highly recommend it if you’re considering preschools in the area!
