We cannot say enough good things about Sugar N Spice! We have had a truly wonderful experience with care for our daughter. We have peace of mind knowing that she is in a clean, safe environment that is welcoming and fun! There are numerous play spaces, both indoor and outdoor, that she gets to enjoy with developmentally appropriate toys. Jeffrey Johnson is experienced, knowledgeable, and reliable. Most importantly, her warmth towards our daughter is evident every day. As first time parents, Jeffrey has been an incredible resource and we trust her judgment completely. She has guided us through our child’s developmental stages and sometimes challenging milestones. We love seeing our daughter learn, grow, and thrive under her care.

TL;DR Very strong recommendation for Sugar N Spice Daycare from a recent graduate (2023) Our child attended Sugar N Spice Daycare with Jeffrey Johnson from the time he was 6 months old to 2 years old (at which point children age out of Sugar N Spice). We are exceptionally pleased with the care our child received from Jeffrey, and highly recommend Jeffrey and Sugar N Spice for the following reasons: 1. Experience. Jeffrey has professionally cared for infants and toddlers for the last 30 years, and has strong knowledge of infant and toddler development. She helped our child (and many others) successfully make transitions in feeding, crawling/walking, sleeping, and others. And she was able to do this while caring for 2 other infants/toddlers! If our child had a tough day, Jeffrey could often diagnose the problem (like teething). Jeffrey also takes continuing education classes in childcare each year and maintains state accreditation (and a 5/5 state rating), so it's clear she's updating her practices to reflect current knowledge. We really trust Jeffrey's experience. 2. Reliability. During our time at Sugar N Spice, Jeffrey never unexpectedly cancelled daycare and was always open and prepared on time. We also knew Jeffrey would try to keep our child on the same schedule (naps, snacks etc.) each day based on his home schedule. 3. Safety. We first began at Sugar N Spice during the middle of the COVID pandemic. Jeffrey had clear, purposeful COVID protocols and maintained a very clean environment. In fact, none of the daycare's families got COVID! Our child is rarely sick, likely because of the small number of children (3-4) at the daycare and because Jeffrey keeps her daycare clean (e.g., no shoes inside). Our child also never came home with a serious injury or anything beyond the normal bumps and scapes of learning to walk and play. It's clear that Sugar N Spice is a safe, well-designed environment. 4. Supporting us as parents. Jeffrey is really in your corner as a parent and supports your plans for your child. She has followed our lead when we've transitioned from bottle to sippy cup, from two naps to one nap, started talking about potties, etc., and has even begun helping our child learn to sleep under a blanket rather than a sleep sack once we let her know that he has to do this at his next daycare. She has played a key reinforcing role in a lot of our child's major transitions. 5. The daycare space. Sugar N Spice includes several rooms for playing, eating, and sleeping on the ground floor of Jeffrey's home residence, which is in a quiet, low-traffic neighborhood. There is also a padded and fenced playspace with toys outdoors in the back yard, which also includes a big playhouse. The kitchen area is clean and has a toddler-sized table and chairs, and the playspaces have a great range of toys for different developmental levels (no screens). Weather permitting, there's outside time everyday. Jeffrey even recently installed a large shade structure to keep the playspace shaded in the warmer months. When I put our child down after we walk in in the morning, he often runs away into the next room to start playing. At the walk-in area, all the children's names are on the wall and they each have a cubby. It feels like their space. 6. Jeffrey herself! It's been our pleasure to get to know Jeffrey over our time at Sugar N Spice. She's kind, humorous, and always thinking of the children's wellbeing. Our child is happy when we take him out of the car and he sees he's at Jeffrey's, he's sometimes hesitant to leave at the end of the day, and he sometimes says her name when he's at home! It's clear he loves Jeffrey very much. That's probably the highest recommendation.
