Parent Reviews
**Update, September 23, 2025: Our son is now 14 yrs old and in his first year of high school. He hasn't gone to Sylvan for over a year and a half now, but it is still helping him. He made straight A's this first 6 weeks, and his math grade is a 100!! Thank you Sylvan.** We started our 10 year old son at Sylvan and have seen steady improvements in his math grades over the past 7 months. He is now able to do his math homework with hardly a question. It has helped him with problem solving in other classes too. At first he did NOT want to go so Sylvan, mainly because he figured it would just be more school stress but with their guidance and reward incentives, he has fun and even asked if he could go to Sylvan full time. Things have gone so well with math that we decided to pay for another full session, to receive the largest discount, to help him in other areas. We are very pleased with the instruction he has received, his enthusiasm towards math and the confidence he has gained. We highly recommend Sylvan for anyone who has a kiddo that is struggling with academics. They are welcoming, work with us when we have schedule conflicts/weather conflicts (since we live 60+ miles away), and the monthly progress meetings with Kimberly are so wonderful and helpful. We love to hear and see his goals being met and witnessing it firsthand. Thank you so much for all you have done to help our son.
Best thing we have done for our son. He is much more motivated with his short being there!
Cesleigh has been attending Sylvan since September of 2024. When she started she was testing way below grade level. She was frustrated with reading to the point she was afraid to even try. She was embarrassed she wasn't as advanced in reading as some of her peers. She has attended once per week for 2 hrs per session for about 18 months. She is now testing above grade level. Her confidence is through the roof now!! She reads signs everywhere we go now. No text is safe/private around her now. I do not believe our Sylvan experience would have been the same without Miss Jessie. She is a wonderful and caring teacher. She truly has a gift!! We loved hearing the progress reports from Matthew each month as well. I know he has a job to do as far as getting students enrolled to keep the business going. However, I feel like he really cares about the kids progress and is honest about the needs of the student. He showed us all the feedback from the teachers and Cesleigh's scores and achievements. I also appreciated the time he spent getting to know us as parents. He remembers personal things about us all and made us comfortable and confident in sending our child to Sylvan. Thank you to everyone at Sylvan of Abilene. David and Candice Rodriguez
Has literally been the best for my girl. I'm so grateful for Sylvan!
I've been fortunate to be able to enroll my daughter into this program and watch her open up and grow leaps and bounds. As a recovery journey following the loss of language due to epilepsy, my child has improved her reading level, grown confidence in the classroom, isn't ashamed to ask questions and join conversation, is no longer isolated due to a language barrier, and has improved in nearly all subjects. She has been given a second chance with sylvan.
Matt and his team at Sylvan are kind, compassionate and have made a huge difference in getting my daughter caught up with math. I love the data provided to see real time progression or regression. I feel this is one of the best ways to tailor exactly what she needs. Teaching individually versus a class is what really has been what was needed for my daughter to succeed!! Even though I've moved from the area, if we ever need help again, I will be back to this Sylvan!!
My son had some medical issues that caused missed classes which caused some gaps in his math skills and knowledge. His Sylvan sessions were exactly what he needed. My son went from not caring about classes as his confidence was so low, and his grades even lower, to being excited about going to class and making 100's on nearly every excitement. He attended sessions over the summer and I saw heightened confidence and improved grades as soon as he went back to school. Then it all got even better until sessions concluded! Not even 6 months of sessions caught him up so much. All of the instructors were amazing and Matthew is so helpful and patient. I cannot recommend Sylvan enough. Worth every penny spent.
Our daughter was behind her grade level and progressed a lot during her time at Sylvan. She enjoyed the system and was always excited to go. Progress is measured a very detailed way so there was no guessing about what she was retaining or how quickly. We found these reports and monthly meetings to be very helpful and transparent so we can know what weaknesses to target at home going forward.
Sylvan Abilene's hands on, caring and adaptive approach was essential to helping our daughter improve her standardized test score! Highly recommend!
Sylvan is a fantastic service that's well worth the financial investment. The teacher-student ratio is 1:4 in center and 1:2 with virtual teaching. This allows each student to receive dedicated attention to focus on their individual learning needs. All the teachers were wonderful- patient and caring. Sylvan helped my son catch up over 2 grade levels. They meet with you at least monthly to keep you informed of the progress your child is making every step the way. I highly recommend Sylvan if your child is struggling in school.
Sylvan Learning Abilene made a noticeable difference in our daughter's confidence and skills. The program was structured, supportive, and very effective. We're truly grateful for the progress she made, the academic improvement was real. The staffs are awesome, constant progress meeting went a long way and much more their schedules' flexibility made it a easier journey for us all. Thank you
The staff was very nurturing and made my daughter feel very confident and comfortable in learning the skills she needed to succeed. It was wonderful the tips and skills that were given not only to her to learn there but also to us as well so we could continue to help her succeed in the future. Sylvan was a great help and definitely the confidence boost she needed.
We are so thankful for everyone at Sylvan that has helped our son grow so much towards where he needed to be. The first thing we noticed is how much better he was at reading, he wasn't stumbling like he use to & that truly blew us away. We are also happy to say that this year he passed all his star test. It is a real big accomplishment & he couldn't have gotten this far without yalls help.
We just hit our one-year mark with Sylvan! Our 7 year old son, Tobias, was struggling to read, and as a homeschooling parent who had taught 3 of our older children to read, I knew we needed extra support. Right away when we began with Sylvan, our son felt a big confidence boost when he realized that other kids—some even older than him—were there for extra help too. It made him feel comfortable and supported right away, knowing he wasn't alone. After the initial excitement wore off, Tobias hit a bit of a wall and started to complain about going. But every single session, he would come out with a smile on his face, chatting about what he did and how much fun he had, especially playing the games Sylvan designs for break time. That consistency told me what i needed to know - that Sylvan was a positive force in our son's education. As time went on, Tobias began recognizing his “Sylvan friends” and teachers outside of class, and it was amazing to see him light up when he saw them. It became clear that the Sylvan team had created an environment where Tobias truly felt like part of their family. The same was true for me as a parent. The consistent calls with the Mike and Michael to discuss Tobias's progress made sure I was involved in the process, and they always took the time to ask questions about Tobias's other interests and home life, to really get to know him. Tobias's reading skills have improved tremendously. He is not only reading more confidently and fluently, but he has also developed a genuine enjoyment for it. That new confidence has carried over into other subjects, too. His overall attitude toward school has changed so much; it's fun again! We finally feel like we're all back on the same team, and we're so grateful to Sylvan for helping him (and me!) rediscover that joy in learning to read!
