Parent Reviews
Incredible Progress in Just a Few Months My son has always struggled with reading and writing, so we decided to get extra support outside of school. He already has an IEP in place, but we wanted to make sure he was getting everything he needed to succeed. In July, we enrolled him at Sylvan Learning, where he attends four hours of tutoring each week. When he was first assessed, his reading level was at a second-grade level. After just three months, he's now reading at a fifth-grade level. When we first started, we were told this kind of progress might take more than a year, so seeing these results in such a short amount of time has been amazing. He also takes part in his own IEP meetings now, which has helped build his confidence and sense of independence. We've seen a big difference not just in his skills, but in how he feels about learning. I'm so grateful for the support, structure, and encouragement Sylvan has provided. It's made a real difference for our family, and I'm excited to see how much more he'll grow.
As a parent, I can honestly say Sylvan Learning Center has been a game changer for us. My teen struggled since late elementary school—especially after remote learning during COVID—but in just a few short months, he's gone from struggling to earning A's and B's in high school. The tutors are incredible, with advanced degrees in math and physics, and they really know how to connect with students. More importantly, he's regained his confidence and takes real pride in his schoolwork again. I couldn't be happier with the progress we've seen.
Great place, our son was almost 2 years behind on reading due to “covid learning”. It has helped him greatly and he is now one of the top readers in his class and it helped build his confidence as well.
I know many families have a lot on their plates, and budgets are stretched. If you find yourself on the fence about Sylvan, I'm here to say that for our family, it was absolutely worth the investment of time and money. One of our children had spent two years being graded below reading level, despite us following the recommendations offered by their teachers. We read together at home, crafted stories, played literacy games, and tried to support their progress in every way we could. Still, there seemed to be a block. It often felt as though the school system was under pressure to move everyone forward and meet grade-level standards, regardless of where each child actually stood by the end of the year. The advice we received was consistent: “Just keep reading at home.” We did that, but our child continued to struggle and had little confidence in their reading ability. At the start of this school year, we were told that students were expected to begin “reading to learn,” rather than still learning how to read. Our child wasn't struggling enough to qualify for intensive literacy support from the school, yet reading was about to become pivotal to every subject: word problems in math, reading comprehension, writing assignments, and more. That's when we decided to enroll them in Sylvan. By November, our child was reading beyond grade level. Sylvan made this possible by first identifying exactly where the problem was. In our child's case, the issue was phonics. The team assessed their skills and then built individualized lessons within a small-group setting that allowed them to work at the right pace. It turned out our child had phonemic gaps going back to kindergarten that had never been addressed. Sylvan's teachers started there, and over the course of several weeks, those gaps were closed. The environment also made a difference. Because students work in small groups and everyone is focused on their own material, it feels like a safe place to learn. Kids can work through challenges without worrying about being singled out or embarrassed. The transformation in our child's confidence was remarkable. They now read to us, read chapter books independently, and have discovered that they genuinely enjoy reading. It took commitment and time from everyone involved, but it was time incredibly well spent.
I saw results in my kids learning within a few months! My kid needed additional supports and their 3rd grade test results went from red to green in reading and math within a few months of tutoring lessons twice a week. Sylvan of Vancouver has caring educators. Maria and Jamie truly care and want to help students grow in their skills. They communicate well and want to do what is best for the kid. I am so glad I made it a priority to have my kid go to Sylvan!
My child has grown in her decoding abilities and writing skills over the past year and a half at Sylvan!
My daughter has received tremendous help from Sylvan, and I would highly recommend Sylvan Learning. My child feels more confident with her homework assignments and receives the necessary support and assistance from Sylvan. There are ups and downs, and there is always room for improvement on both ends but in general sense Sylvan has been a lifesaver to us. And my child especially appreciates Maria at Sylvan.
My son joined the Sylvan English program a few years ago; we noticed he had made great progress. He went from below average to above his current level. He is now very confident at school, and he was always excited to attend the lessons there. Thank you to the teachers who make it fun for him to learn. We highly recommended Sylvan (Maria) for parents with kids that need some extra help.
Our grandson was having a hard time with math, especially fractions and reading comprehension in his school classroom. So, we brought him to Sylvan for some extra help and tutoring. He's been going for a couple months and gains more confidence every time he goes. He likes everything about it. Thank you Sylvan!!
We've been absolutely delighted with Sylvan. They have helped my son make remarkable progress in math, and choosing them has been the best decision we've made for his education this year.
When my son first started tutoring, he was struggling with low confidence and falling behind academically. It was hard to watch him doubt himself and feel discouraged. Since starting, I've seen such a remarkable change in him—not only in his schoolwork but in the way he carries himself. His confidence has grown, and he now understands what he needs to do to reach his grade level and keep moving forward. The patience, encouragement, and support he's received from Sylvan have made all the difference. I am truly beyond grateful for the positive impact this tutoring has had on my son's life and for helping him believe in himself again.
