We love The Schoolhouse. Our son was part of the first class of kids to attend the Schoolhouse and just transitioned to Kindergarten this fall. We were also with Rachel Beard at her previous location, Sandy's Place. We loved that The Schoolhouse focused on socio-emotional learning through a Reggio Emilia approach. The Schoolhouse families are part of the village of friends and inclusivity and collaboration are part of what Rachel emphasizes with the kids. It is child-centered and focuses on how young children work together and problem-solve in developmentally appropriate ways. Most of all, it is clear that Rachel loves all of her students and they love her. My son left every day giving her a hug and feeling loved. It is an incredibly special place that we feel fortunate to be a part of.

We absolutely love The Schoolhouse and feel so lucky to have found this wonderful place for our daughter. We enrolled our daughter when she was 16 months, and our experience over the past year has surpassed our expectations in every way. Rachel, the teacher, is truly gifted. She cultivates a welcoming, nurturing, and enriching community amongst the children and families alike. She masterfully meets each child where they are developmentally with a mix of ages who all benefit from the presence of the others - the older children get to be leaders for the younger, and the younger learn from the older. She is incredibly thoughtful and attuned to the needs of her kiddos in everything she does. One of the things that impressed us most as parents of the youngest child in last year’s group was the maturity and kindness of the oldest kids, who left the school academically and emotionally ready for kindergarten. We couldn’t be happier with our experience.

Our daughter thrived at The Schoolhouse and we would have continued there until she was ready for kinder had we not had to move this year for work. Our daughter joined the Schoolhouse as a one year old and spent over two beautiful years there. Rachel, the owner and teacher, is such a gifted early childhood shepherd. Her thoughtfulness combined with knowledge and intuition is such a gift to her students. Our daughter came out of The Schoolhouse confident about who she is and how she can express her feelings even through difficult times. For example, when we prepared for our second child, Rachel prepared our daughter at school through books and dramatic play with baby dolls. She is so mindful of emotional intelligence and I am so convinced now that when that piece is addressed it creates a wonderful foundation for all other types of learning and knowing and feeling. After reviewing multiple Daycare options, and with my second child, we chose The Schoolhouse, and we could not be more thrilled with this decision.
