Parent Reviews
Such a great preschool. My son was there for 2 years and he's more than ready to start kindergarten this year at age 5. They are very intentional with socioemotional skill building. They had a chart where kids could post how they were feeling today, to externalize their emotions and visualize how others might be feeling differently. They had a "sign-in sheet" where kids were asked to trace their name every day, which is brilliant as it build a sense of responsibility with writing practice. My son could write his name proudly by age 3! It's the little details that make this place so great! The teachers are so thoughtful and caring. We're really going to miss the community. Definitely check this one out.
I can't imagine a better preschool to send your child to in San Francisco! My son attended Tinker from 18months to 5 years old and have been nothing short of amazed with the level of love and care all of the teachers have provided for my son. It is a safe/nurturing environment and the teachers are always keeping the learning fresh and exciting for the kids. They put a lot of thought and effort into the curriculum. Even in the height of Covid, they made sure to keep the kids schedules as normal as possible. One part of the program that we love is that they go outside and explore parks nearby everyday, rain or shine! They also provide daily pictures, weekly newsletters and conduct parent/teacher conferences so you can hear about the progress your child is making. The school is so involved with developing your child! There is also a active parent community that puts on events and playdates which is a nice way to connect with other families in the city. All the kids there are always so happy and excited to be there as well. My son loves the friends he made at Tinker and tells me how much he loves his teachers everyday. The school does a very thorough job of vetting teachers and have enjoyed getting to know all of them. They are like family. We will miss Tinker dearly (we had to move to the east coast). They really have a great thing going there and can't wait to see how the school grows and evolves over time.
Our family has been at Tinker for over 3.5 years since my child was 2 years old. I first met Miranda, the director, while the school was under construction and was immediately drawn into her vision for Tinker. I’m so thrilled to see Miranda’s vision not only come to life, but bloom and flourish over the years. Tinker is such a special place, made even more magical with SF as the backdrop. Prior to COVID, the kids often explored different parts of the city, from as west as the beach to as east as the Ferry Building. He learned to ride the muni, memorized all the neighborhood routes to get to the library, GGP, the Presidio, or their favorite playground. I was often jealous of all the fun adventures ;) and yet so grateful that he was having all these wonderfully rich experiences. Aside from all the great outdoor activities, Tinker also provides fun enrichment activities at the school — true to its name, the kids “tinker” with so many different tools and mediums, often up cycling materials into amazing new creations. They paint, craft, sing, read, and use their imagination to build and create. Many of the themes build throughout the week, if not throughout the year. The facility is bright and clean. The school provides lunch and snacks (at least pre COVID). The teachers and staff truly put the child first and embody the Reggio Emilia philosophy of letting the child lead. Miranda has assembled a strong team, including Teacher Jordan, to provide a magical place for kids that is truly special and taking advantage of this beautiful city we are all so lucky to call home.
