Pre-Kindergarten

In our Pre-Kindergarten program, your child begins to develop emergent reading, writing, science, technology, engineering and math skills within large-group, small-group and independent settings.

Tobin offers a school-year, school-day PreK program from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. PreK is offered as a 4 day (Tuesday-Friday), or a 5 day option. These classrooms follow our academic year calendar with closures on school vacation days and dismissal at noon on early release days. Early childhood education is what we know best at the Tobin School. These early years present an opportunity for children to develop language and literacy skills. Our Preschool and Pre-K programs expose your child to a variety of new ideas, places, and things, setting the stage for strong social relationships. Children at this age learn best in an balanced environment of fun, exploratory play with an introduction to letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. Our Pre-K students take these beginning skills and build on them for Kindergarten-readiness.

Junior Kindergarten

Does your child have a third year of preschool before Kindergarten? Our innovative Jr Kindergarten option is open to students who are 4.5 by September 1st and have completed a year of PreK or its equivalent, creating a more cohesive group of learners than a repetition of Pre-K. You can choose between a school day/school year program and a full-day option. Tobin’s Jr Kindergartens are both offered as 5 day a week programs. The goal of Jr Kindergarten is to take these children “as far as they can go”. Your child’s daily schedule includes free choice play and structured academic learning blocks for language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Children also move around the building to join other classes for lunch, visit the Art Studio and Music Room, and more. With our Jr Kindergarten program, your child can have a developmentally appropriate learning experience, while taking full advantage of an extra year of learning and continuing to build important social, emotional, and academic skills.

The last year before kindergarten is a time of growth. We offer a program that gives you both teachers who cherish this important time, and curriculum recognized by parents and teachers for helping children build the social and academic skills needed to be ready for school.

Children at this Pre-Kindergarten age learn most effectively in an environment with a balance of fun, exploratory play, combined with an introduction to combined with an introduction to problem solving, critical thinking, phonics and letter-based themes and social skill role-play. Our Pre-K children take these beginning skills and build on them for Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten-readiness.

Preschool

Tobin Children’s School offers a Preschool program for children ages 2.9 years and up, with a ratio of preschooler to caregiver of 10/1. Early childhood education is what we know best at Tobin Children’s School. Children at this age learn most effectively in an environment with a balance of fun, exploratory play, combined with an introduction to letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. Our Preschool children are working on building these beginning skills to provide a strong educational foundation for their next step.

Children's House

Children's House programs include Toddler (18 months - 3 years) and Primary (3 years to 6 years). The Primary Program includes the Kindergarten year, when students have special programs such as Forest Fridays, Design Lab classes, and schoolwide assemblies.

Primary Program

The Primary program includes students from 3 to 6 years old. Multi-age classrooms feature a 3-year cycle where students form deep bonds with teachers and peers. Hands-on activities using special Montessori materials help students develop socially, emotionally, and cognitively.
