Parent Reviews
We've been at Gwiggles Preschool for a year and love it. Things we especially love: (1) Very low kids-to-teacher ratio. It helped our daughter a lot with the transition from only-child-nanny situation to a daycare-and then preschool setting. She gets plenty of attention, which we believe helped her develop her language skills. We do not speak English at home, and yet she speaks English like a regular 3 year old. This is all thanks to Gwiggles! (2) Small group size. The small group size lowers the chance of catching all sorts of diseases. Everyone warned us that once our child goes to daycare/preschool we should prepare ourselves for constant sick days. This has not been our case, which I attribute to the small group size and teachers' thorough cleaning of the space / toys at the end of each day. (3) We are impressed by how much she learns at school. Not just numbers, letters, songs, yoga poses, and how to act in a group, but also seemingly trivial things such as how to put on your shoes, put on a sweater and zip your jacket. (4) Outdoor space: Gwiggles takes the kids to the nearby awesome playground or the UCSF field. In both places, the kids can safely discover nature, roam around in bushes, feel grass, search for branches, leaves, etc. Our daughter loves it so much she makes us sometimes come on weekends to this playground, so she can show us how she plays with her friends. (5) Lunch prepared: Gwiggles' preschool prepares a healthy lunch for the kids, in addition to snacks. (6) Amazing working-parent friendly holiday/vacation schedule. It's really a year-round school with minimal school closures. (7) Above and beyond teachers: when I was expecting our second kid, Ms. Tessa and the teacher offered us to babysit our older child in case my husband and I had to go to the hospital during non-Gwiggles hours. I was so grateful to be able to count on their support as our families live far away.
We feel so fortunate to have found Gwiggles for our currently 2-year-old daughter. We enrolled her in day care at Gwiggles beginning in July 2021 and could not be happier with her/our experience. Our daughter absolutely adores Ms. Tina, the head of the day care and her main caregiver, as well as all of the other caregivers she interacts with. She loves her friends/classmates at Gwiggles. It is such a fantastic feeling to hear your child talk about her teachers and friends with such love and admiration and to know that your child feels loved by the people she spends nearly every day with. It is so clear, from every interaction, that Gwiggles truly cares about and values the children and families enrolled in the program. Though our priorities for our daughter's daily day care experience were simply lots of play and love, she has also learned SO MUCH since we joined Gwiggles. Within weeks of our daughter's enrollment, her language skills exploded. She could count to 20 before she turned 2. She has learned how to tell her right hand from left, directions, and shapes. (She has also learned many other things). Toddlers are not always an easy crowd, and Ms. Tina is both abundantly patient with the children and also clear and helpful about establishing healthy boundaries and appropriate behaviors when interacting with other people. Recently, their work on basic table manners has led to improvements at our dinner table at home. I could go on...but in the interest of readability I will just say two more things: 1) We started potty training less than 2 weeks ago, and Ms. Tina has been a support throughout the process, giving us advice and ensuring that we are consistent at Gwiggles and at home. The result is our daughter using the potty like a near-pro in less than 2 weeks. 2) Unlike many other programs, Gwiggles provides a tasty lunch (vegetarian and organic) every day for students, which is a huge relief as a parent
Gwiggles Daycare has been an absolute dream! As first time parents, we were naturally hesitant to hand off our 6 month old but our son has definitely thrived over the past half year. We get great photos throughout the day including a picture of his lunch, which is always way better than anything I would have packed! Tina has helped us to establish a nap schedule, introduce solids, and wean off the bottle. Gwiggles is a loving, safe environment I would highly recommend.
Our son spent about six months at Gwiggles, from 2 to 2.5 y/o. This was a super-formative time! He got much better at naptime, he became a better eater, and he was fully potty-trained by the end of this period. He also developed his first few relationships with other kids there, and we are so grateful: he learned to be loving, play in a group, take care of his buddies. The teachers are truly excellent, warm, attentive, and actively engage the kids in play and early learning.
