Parent Reviews
We couldn’t be happier with our experience at The Little School in San Francisco, especially in the TK program. From day one, it’s been clear how thoughtful, nurturing, and intentional the environment is. The teachers are truly exceptional: warm, patient, and deeply attuned to each child. Our daughter feels seen and supported every day, and the staff does an incredible job balancing structure with play, curiosity, and creativity. She comes home excited to tell us what she learned, what she built, and who she played with, which says everything. The TK curriculum strikes a wonderful balance between academic readiness and social-emotional development. There’s a real emphasis on kindness, independence, and confidence, not just letters and numbers. We’ve seen so much growth in her communication skills, problem-solving, and self-assurance in a short time. Communication with families is also excellent. We always feel informed and included, and it’s clear that the school views parents as partners. The community itself is warm and welcoming so it truly feels like a place where children and families belong. We feel incredibly grateful to have found The Little School and would wholeheartedly recommend it to any family looking for a loving, engaging, and developmentally thoughtful TK experience in SF.
We feel incredibly fortunate to be a part of The Little School community! All three of my children have been able to experience the incredible staff and teachers, the thoughtful and inclusive approach to learning and the joyful relationships that have flourished over the years. As a parent of a child who needs additional support, the school has gone to great lengths to guide us in understanding the best way to help our child thrive not only in the classroom, but also at home. He has a "team" of incredible individuals looking after him and I know with their continued dedication to his care, his journey through these pivotal years will prepare him for Kindergarten and beyond. The TK program for my children was such a rich and unique experience filled with art, music, storytelling and dance. Two out of my three children have gone through the TK program and it was a beautiful experience to end their time at Little School.
I can't say enough about how much we love The Little School! The teachers are highly qualified and teach with true intention within a play based learning environment. My kids hate to leave school when I go to pick them up. The parent community is truly welcoming and is very diverse. The same is true for the teachers and staff. We feel that we are given insights into our children as well as resources internally and externally when one needs additional support. That's the type of thing you don't know that you might need until you do. The TK program is truly amazing! It definitely provides a "gift year" to the kids that are able to attend. The 4 year old program has had an outdoor education component for many years, not just an addition due to Covid. Having just gone through the independent school kindergarten application process, I can say that the LS team was very helpful. The teachers and head of school helped us decide which schools would be a good fit for our child, and guided us through the process. Our family feels so fortunate to have our kids attend The Little School.
The Little School is an incredible preschool. The teachers are phenomenal and are kind, patient supportive, and fun. They have gotten to know both my children so very well, set developmental goals for them and gently scaffolded my children towards those goals. You can get familiar with the tenure of the staff on the website and see that teachers are happy and stay for many years at this preschool. The wide variety of play materials exposes my children to a diverse set of experiences, new interests and skills. For example, both my kids (in the later years) loved woodworking, hammering nails into wood. My youngest loves to get dirty in the sand and both learned to ride a tricycle around the main play structure. There are amenities available for kids who need some extra support, such as swings for emotional regulation, ample headsets for noise sensitivities and special strategies for success. The teacher to child ratio allow for plenty of help when needed. The community is incredibly supportive and engaged. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer and become engaged with the school, should you choose to do so. One of the most amazing parts of The Little School is the administration and the teacher's willingness to receive feedback. They regularly issue surveys inviting you to provide positive feedback and to also cite improvements for the school. They take this feedback and thoughtfully incorporate the needed changes. If you are considering The Little School for your TK year, your child will get an especially special year. My child loved the in class performers, the chance to be in a performance and field trips across the city. The new schedule options and structure for 2023-24+ should help accommodate some working families too, a change that speaks to the inclusive nature of the school.
