Parent Reviews
We couldn’t be happier with UoC. The teachers are nurturing, patient, and genuinely invested in the kids. Our child has grown so much since starting here, and we’ve seen a huge boost in development and independence. Communication with families is clear and consistent, and it’s obvious there’s a lot of thought put into both learning and play. The environment feels structured and still fun. We’re so grateful to be part of this community and recommend this school to any family looking for a caring, quality preschool.
We were nervous about sending our son to preschool. Universe of Colors has been great for our son and for us. Our house is primarily English with some Spanish but now that he has been at UoC he has improved his Spanish skills drastically.
All three of my children have been at Universe of Colors & I will be forever grateful for this amazing start to their education! The school is warm, welcoming, and happy. Many of the teachers have been there for a very long time which is a true testament to what a great school it is. My kids learning Spanish is just the cherry on top. Highly recommend!
Universe of Colors is a hidden GEM! My daughter recently graduated from the preschool program at UoC, and I couldn't be any more impressed with the teachers and facility. My daughter attended a Montessori from 18 months- 3.5 years, and when we relocated to San Mateo, we enrolled her in a highly recommended private, play-inspired school in Burlingame. At 4yrs, she told us she was bored and missed learning. A Facebook moms group then advised me about UoC, and I am forever grateful! My daughter never spoke Spanish before attending UoC. The teachers did a beautiful job immersing her in the language, and now she speaks Spanish, sings songs in Spanish, and reads Spanish daily. Before my daughter's 5 birthday, she competently read books and completed math problems. UoC has a beautiful balance of education and play, weekly dance parties, and tons of outside play that coincides with the younger children. They also have a garden and she would tell me about the fresh vegetables they grew and got to eat. She also brought home beautiful arts and crafts. The teachers are warm and caring and proactively identified areas we can work with her to improve her academic experience. When she transitioned to the TK program, we started her in speech therapy based on the teachers recommendation. Fast forward 8 months later, her speech is at a 1st-grade level. I wish I learned about the preschool earlier, and I will genuinely miss the incredible teachers at UoC.
My 5 year old son has been at Universe of Colors since he was 3 years old. We could not be more grateful for the amazing experience he has had over the past 2 years! Universe of Colors is like one big family. The teachers are so warm and nurturing and treat each child and their family with care and love. I have watched my son go from a super shy "Covid toddler" when he first started at UoC, to a confident, social, little boy ready for Kindergarten. He absolutely loves his teachers, all of his friends, and going to school every day! We have made so many friends- both children and adults in our time at the preschool. It is an amazing community of families that we feel so lucky to be a part of!
Both of our kids currently attend Universe of Colors - our son has been there for almost 2 years and our daughter just recently started (unlike some other preschools they allow kids to start at 2 years old which is awesome). I cannot say enough positive things about our experience there. Our kids have thrived under all of the teachers care, and can't wait to go to school in the morning. When I pick them them up they are always happy, eager to show off the new art project they've made, and tell me about the friends they played with and the things they learned. I like that the day has a good balance of outdoor playtime, learning, projects, and it's also Spanish immersion. We also really enjoy being a part of the parent community - we've been able to meet a lot of the families at various birthday parties and playdates. We feel so grateful that we found UofC and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
We started attending Universe of Colors this January with our then 2.5 year old daughter. She was exposed to Spanish by her nanny and we wanted to keep this gift and send her to a Spanish preschool. We could not be happier! After the first week she gave me a hug and her pacifier and walked in with Teacher Anna. Teacher Anna is the most positive person I have ever met, she welcomes the children with a big smile and they are happy to walk in with her every morning! Every day at pickup she tells me it was a good day and she had fun. She talks about her friends and her teacher, Teacher Tania whom she loves! We had an amazing parent teacher conference where we learned a lot about her day and could ask all the questions without feeling rushed. Teacher Terri is well organized and gives us little updates about our daughters day/naps. After attending the school for 6 months I'm happy to recommend it to anyone.
Our family loves Universe of Colors, especially our new (preschool) graduate! We started our daughter there at 3.5 and she's grown into a kind, curious and artistic kid during her time there and is well prepared to take on kindergarten in the fall, both academically and socially. Over the course of the last two years we've received excellent communication regarding our child's individual growth and school events and programming. The academics are appropriate for each age and are well balanced with play, song, dance and art. Students are immersed in Spanish until they enter the "pre-K" style classroom, when English academics also enters the programming to prepare the students for kindergarten. Every week the kids come home with a multitude of short and multi-day academic and art projects. And they dance, do yoga, sing, play.... it's all really there. All the teachers take the time to really get to know the individual students and families, and since there is very little teacher turnover, we get to know them too! In our experience, the families are also warm and welcoming, and the kids build beautiful friendships. I can't recommend this school highly enough. We're going to miss UoC so much...at least until our youngest is ready to take his place there!
This is a wonderful school, with loving and caring teachers. My child has grown tremendously in every facet of his life - learning Spanish, practicing letters / numbers, and growing his socio-emotional skills. The project-based curriculum has improved my child's fine motor skills, not to mention making them so happy to show off their work to their parents. This is a great school and we are so happy to have our child in their care.
Universe of Colors has been a spectacular experience for our family. We have two sons at the school, and they love it. All the teachers are kind, attentive, and talented. They have provided us insight and guidance for our boys at many turns, including identifying their strengths and weaknesses (and giving us tools to help address those opportunities at home as well as while they are in school). The Spanish language immersion is done in such a way that both our boys have made significant advances with their Spanish, despite having two non-Spanish-speaking parents at home; our 2.5 year old regularly tells us news words each week (“apple in Spanish is manzana!”). The school does an awesome job balancing free play with academics and art projects. I’m blown away by how much my 4.5 year old has learned in two short years. He’s writing letters and numbers, spells and reads his own name, and is showing a genuine enthusiasm for learning. We credit most of this to Universe of Colors. The efforts the teachers put into events, projects, and the curriculum are above and beyond. Lastly, it’s important to note that the school culture is lovely and inclusive. The families who attend are diverse and, to a parent, everyone is warm and kind. We have made wonderful new friends (both kids and adults!) through the school, which we will carry on as our oldest heads to a new school for kindergarten. If you are looking for a fun, warm, diverse, engaging preschool, we can’t recommend Universe of Colors enough.
UoC immediately felt like home the moment I walked in. I was so impressed with how welcoming and warm the teachers were. The last two years have been wonderful, and we love everything about it. When we leave next year since our last is going to kinder we will be extremely sad. We were so impressed with how prepared my daughter was for kindergarten after she left Teacher Teri's class. There was so much she learned there with reading, writing, mathematics, etc. As far as my son, he has learned a lot as well, and is speaking a lot of Spanish. Not only do they teach the children so much, but they truly care for them as well!! Everyday I know my kids are loved and safe there.
My youngest child is going to kindergarten this year and I cannot tell you how much I’m going to miss these teachers after this five year relationship. The whole experience has been excellent, very supportive and loving. There is very little teacher turnover, most teachers have been there for years (the main ones have been there longer than our family). We went through a number of things (both of my kids bit other kids, my older kid has adhd, there were other kids with other neurodiversity, among other things) and everything was handled with grace and compassion. I’m so glad I found this school and I’m so sorry to come to the natural end of the relationship.
Universe of Colors in San Mateo has been the most nurturing, caring, educational, and fun community we could have asked for! We struggled to find childcare when my daughter was born at the start of the Covid pandemic, and ended up with a combination of care: some days she stayed home with me, and three days a week we participated in a nanny-share with neighbors. Her first few words were in Spanish thanks to our wonderful nanny, so once she was old enough for preschool (after her 2nd birthday), my husband and I wanted to find a preschool that would continue to nurture her bilingual language development. We lucked out when we found Universe of Colors, which not only has continued to help Iris thrive in her Spanish language development, but the amazing teachers have also helped her learn and grow immensely in her social skills, structured play, potty learning, and fine motor development. Most of all, we can rest easily knowing Iris is in a loving and safe school. Thank you to teachers Tania, Teri, Wendy, and all the other amazing teachers that love and care for Iris like their own child every single day!
